Wedding Cookie Tables and my favorite cookie

January 16, 2023

The tradition of the Pittsburgh wedding cookie table is a time-honored treasured one. And a yummy one!  It is said to have originated during the Great Depression when families couldn't afford wedding cakes. The mother of the bride would bake many cookies instead. Additionally, family members of the bride would also help bake the cookies that are shared with the bride and groom and all of the wedding guests. The tradition has been passed down through generations in Pittsburgh ever since. It's a unique and special way to honor a family's heritage and bring them together on such a special day.

During weddings, there are many types of cookies. Traditional cookies like chocolate chip, lady locks, peanut butter blooms, you name they are there. And sometime there are intricate cookies on the cookie table like the above images from a summer wedding.

In addition to cookie tables, I have also encountered cupcakes mixed in with the cookies or a whole cupcake table.

These delectable treats are set out for the entire wedding for guests to much one before, during, and after dinner. Brides and Grooms often also have adorable take home containers for their guests to take treats home for later.

Thinking about wedding cookie tables made me hungry for my favorite cookie - the peanut butter blossom. It's an amazingly delicious cookie!  I love that they combine the delicious flavors of chocolate and peanut butter in one cookie. Baking is a great way to have fun in the kitchen, especially with a Kitchen Aid mixer—it makes the process so much easier! If you’re looking for something to do during the cold winter months, I’d recommend breaking out your  Better Homes and Gardens cookbook (you know you have one!). Baking is even better when you can share your creations with friends and family!

While prepping for this week's blog circle topic, I baked these yummy cookies. The house was warm, and smelled amazing. I even ate a few while the Hershey kisses were still melty. What's your favorite cookie? Bake them this winter!
